INTERNAL: Guidelines for Newsletter Articles

Hello!

The purpose of this page is to help TCEC staff format their newsletter article drafts and ensure the easiest and most efficient process for publishing articles to the website.

Guidelines for Text

  • Please submit your draft to Sarah in the form of a Word document or other word processing file (Pages, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Please do NOT submit it as a PDF, PowerPoint file, or anything that isn't intended primarily for text editing.
  • Please keep the formatting of the text to a MINIMUM. Bolding and italicizing text for emphasis is fine. Inserting links is fine. Please don't use any of the old TCEC newsletter article templates.
  • If you have a specific way you'd like the text to look (e.g. a table, a heading or subheading, a blockquote, a footnote, etc.) please indicate this in the text or as a comment. The reason for this is that trying to copy and paste your text with any funky formatting included will break the website and delay publication of the article. (And I'd prefer to not have to re-type your entire article into the site myself =P)
  • SiteFarm has a specific style guide and as such we are somewhat limited in what we can customize or change. The heading styles, colors, etc, that you see are all what is built into the site and cannot be changed by me or anyone else.

Guidelines for Images

Did I hear you say we can use gifs, Sarah? That's right, sleepy kitten!
  • Whenever possible, please send any images you want included separate from your document. See formatting issues above.
  • SiteFarm ONLY accepts the following file types: PNG, GIF, JPG and JPEG. Please check the file type before asking me to use an image file in an article.
  • You are not required to choose images for your article, but if you have something specific in mind, please let me know.

Guidelines for Links

  • Links can be embedded in the text of your draft OR just included as URLs in the text.
  • If you want an image to link to a specific URL, make a note of that in your draft.
  • If you want to link to a specific file (e.g. a data collection instrument or another document) that isn't already linked on the website, please send over the file so I can upload it.
  • If you want to link to a specific place within a page on our website, either include the anchor link OR let me know where you'd like to link so that I can create an anchor.
  • As a side note, any links to the TCEC site should say "tobaccoeval.ucdavis.edu" in the URL. If your link says "tcec.sf," please update it to "tobaccoeval."
Thank you!!!
